Lesson Objectives:

  1. The students will learn how leaves can be classified by making a leaf collection.


Materials Required:
    1.   notebook or photo album
    2.   20 required leaves
    3.   paper
    4.   3 x 5 notecards
 
 

Lesson Outline:
    1.  Collect 20 required leaves.
    2.  Make a notecard for each leaf that contains the following information:
            a.  common name
            b.  scientific name
            c.  type of leaf
            d.  where the leaf was found
    3.   Organize leaves in alphabetical order.
    4.   Make a table of contents for your leaf collection.
 
 

Extension Activities:

  1. The students can explore many different areas for this project.

  2. The students can research the different types of trees found in their state.
