NEW!Little Leaves Program (January-May):Movement, stories and art for ages 0 through 6 at the LEAF Education Center from 10 to 10:45 a.m.Each program will explore a nature-focused theme and will feature a special storytime with lots of opportunities to move and wiggle and sing. The storytime will be followed by an open-ended, process-oriented art experience where adults and children can have fun experimenting together with an array of art materials. The programs have been designed with the intent of offering a playful and creative environment for all children aged 0-6 (with parent/caregiver participation). This program is free and open to the public. No pre-registration required. Program dates (Monday mornings): January 26, February 23, March 16, April 20, May 18.
From Produce to Glass (Wednesday, April 15): This program has been cancelled.Join us for our next 3rd Wednesday Workshop on Wednesday, May 20 titled, "Photographing Flowers for Optimum Impact." Patty Raydo, President of the Erie Photography Club will do the presentation on photographing spring blossoms. More details to come.
Art Classes for Seniors (dates in April, May, June 2015): Thanks to a grant from Erie Arts & Culture with additional support from H.A.N.D.S., LEAF is excited to offer watercolor classes for senior citizens taught by local artist Joyce Perowicz. There are two-week sessions with the first beginning April 23. Classes are Thursday from 1-3 p.m. at the LEAF Education Center. Cost is $20 for the four weeks, which includes supplies. Children's Art Classes (July 2015): Looking for a creative outlet for your child this summer? LEAF is pleased to offer art classes for children during July 2015. The classes will be held at the LEAF Education Center and taught by artist Julia Horan from the Young Artists' Conservatory. Join us Thursday, April 16 at the LEAF Education Center for our free Open House from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to learn more. Classes will be offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays with separate sessions for ages 4-8 and 9-12. The cost to attend is $5 per session, which includes supplies. Registration is limited to 30 children per session on a first come, first served basis. Arbor Day Celebration (Friday, May 1, 2015):The event draws awareness in the community about the role and importance of trees in the environment. The event is hosted at Frontier Park during identical morning and afternoon education sessions with 200+ fifth-grade students from several participating schools in the Erie area. Schools may picnic in the park before or after each session. Each session will include hands-on learning stations led by local presenters and includes activities such as tree identification, parts of a tree, trees and insects, and more. Groups of students will attend three half-hour, hands-on learning stations followed by an all-student tree planting ceremony to conclude each session. ContactCharat LEAF to include your school.
16th Annual LEAF Festival (Saturday, September 12, 2015): This is Erie’s annual celebration of the beauty and diversity of trees in the arboretum. The festival features activities for all ages and interests including: crafts for kids, face painting, storytellers, giant bubbles, a Tree-sure Hunt, tree plantings, fitness activities, educational exhibits, local organizations providing information and hands-on activities, food vendors and many other family activities. Chinese Auction tickets will be for sale throughout the day and the drawing will be held towards the end of the event. Proceeds from the Chinese Auction will benefit the LEAF Education Center.This event is free and open to the public.
