Upcoming LEAF Festivals and Events
Winterfest (Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015): Winterfest has been a popular and free annual opportunity for area residents and vistors of all ages to join in winter fun and games at the LEAF Education Center and Frontier Park. On hand are horse-drawn wagon rides, ice carving, ice-fishing demonstrations, kite flying, and (weather permitting) sledding, toboganning, snowboarding and snowman making.
Arbor Day Celebration (Friday, May 1, 2015): The event draws awareness in the community about the role and importance of trees in the environment. The event is hosted at Frontier Park during identical morning and afternoon education sessions with 200+ students from several participating schools in the Erie area. Schools may picnic in the park before or after each session. Each session will include hands-on learning stations led by local presenters and includes activities such as tree identification, parts of a tree, trees and insects, and more. Groups of students will attend three half-hour, hands-on learning stations followed by an all-student tree planting ceremony to conclude each session.
LEAF Festival (Saturday, September 12, 2015): This is Erie’s annual celebration of the beauty and diversity of trees in the arboretum. The festival features activities for all ages and interests including: crafts for kids, face painting, storytellers, giant bubbles, a Tree-sure Hunt, tree plantings, fitness activities, educational exhibits, local organizations providing information and hands-on activities, food vendors and many other family activities. Chinese Auction tickets will be for sale throughout the day and the drawing will be held towards the end of the event. Proceeds from the Chinese Auction will benefit the LEAF Education Center.
